The Ghana Environmental Health Officers Association (GEHOA) is the mouth piece of all Environmental Health Officers practicing in the Ministries, Department and Agencies in Ghana with mandates drawn from the 1992 Republican Constitution of the Republic of Ghana under Chapter Six, Article 41 clause (g) and (k) and other subsidiary legislations such as Public Health Act, Act 851 of 2012, the Local Governance Act, Act 936 of 2016, Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016, Act 925 among other policy and related regulations in force.
Some members of the Association also work in the Waste Management Departments of the various Metropolitan Assemblies in Ghana, Port Health Unit of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health and some others with the Ghana Armed Forces.
The members of the Association can be found in all related Ministries, Regional Co-ordinating Councils, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in Ghana.
The Association was formed over four decades ago with the late Mr. Alfred Ablordepey as the first president of the Association from its inception till the year 2000, this was followed by Mr. Clement Bawumia from the year 2000 to 2008, then by Mr. Edward A Mba from 2008 to 2012, with Mr Charles O. Bosomprah from 2012- 2016 and currently Mr. Paul Kwesi Nutsugah Jnr from 2016 till date.
The Quadrennial Delegates Congress is the highest decision-making body of the Association and usually meets every four years to deliberate on issues of affecting practice and also issue communique or resolution.
There is also a National Executive Council (NEC) which is made up of elected officers and Regional Chairpersons of the Association, at the Regional level there is a Regional Executive Council made up of all the District Representatives in the Region.
The National Secretariat is located within the premises of the Accra School of Hygiene, Korle -Bu in the Greater Accra Region.
